About the Founders and Chief Consultants

Pam VanHorn, Ph.D. and Greg VanHorn, Ph.D. are co-founders and chief consultants of VanHorn Educational Consultants. They have individually and collectively been embedded in Ohio education since the 1980s. In addition to their time in the classroom and leading schools and districts, both Pam and Greg have worked alongside principals and superintendents across the state on grant implementation, school improvement efforts, and program evaluation. They regularly call on the expertise of other education professionals, offering vast experience in K-12 education.

Dr. Pamela VanHorn is an accomplished educator and leader with extensive experience across K–12 districts, higher education, and statewide initiatives. She has served in leadership, consulting, and faculty roles with the University of Cincinnati, University of Dayton, Ashland University, Xavier University, and the Ohio Department of Education, as well as in urban and suburban school districts.

Pamela began her career as a special education teacher before moving into building leadership in middle and high schools. During her 17 years as a principal, her school earned numerous state and national recognitions, including the Ohio Schools to Watch designation, multiple Ohio Department of Education grants, and the OASSP/MetLife Ohio Middle School Principal of the Year award.

At the Ohio Department of Education, she served as Director of Improvement and Innovation during the Race to the Top years, overseeing Innovation, SIG, and STEM grants for districts statewide. For the past six years, she has coordinated a statewide leadership development initiative for administrators and teacher leaders.

Her research on collaborative leadership and student achievement earned national recognition as a UCEA David L. Clark Scholar and the Ohio State University William Lode man Outstanding Dissertation Award. She has presented at state and national conferences, taught pre‑service teachers on equity and social justice, and served as an adjunct professor at Ashland and Xavier Universities. Beginning in fall 2023, she joins the University of Cincinnati faculty, teaching instructional leadership and supporting the EdD cohort.

Dr. Gregory VanHorn brings more than 35 years of experience in teaching, leadership, and school improvement across urban and rural districts. His work centers on the power of collaborative teams, shared decision‑making, and using student data to drive meaningful gains in learning.

Greg has served as a middle‑level principal, a Race to the Top liaison supporting large urban districts, and an instructional coach for teachers and principals. His background also includes roles as a special education teacher, director of special education, co‑director of a career center, and principal of a school serving at‑risk students.

Since 2015, Greg and Pam have partnered with organizations on program evaluation, grant renewal, and innovative service‑delivery models. Today, he continues to coach educators and model effective team facilitation in K–12 districts. He is deeply committed to empowering teachers and administrators to lead, collaborate, and build the trust needed to strengthen educator quality and improve student outcomes.
